Self Isolation in My Studio

It’s been a LOOOONG 10 weeks. I miss hugging and visiting family. Zoom can only alleviate so much. I spend a lot of time in my studio painting animal skulls that I make cheerier by adding flowers and colour. I can honestly say that 90% of the skulls came from animals that led happy lives before their deaths. The goat skulls are mainly old age. Sally, the horse skull died from West Nile Virus, the pigs were raised and loved and then eaten. Lottie, the dachshund cross, is a Hurricane Katrina survivor. She spent her last days happily running around Silver Willow Farm. The beaver skull was a found object. I’m going to continue to paint skulls until I run out of large canvases. Then I’ll think about what’s next.

I’m also creating a little memorial for my pets, Cookie, Trip and Ginny Joe. Cookie was a rescue cat that only lived about 6 months. Trip (Triple Assault) was my registered quarter horse that we had to let go last August and Ginny Joe was my registered Thoroughbred that we had to let go two years ago because of the cancers she developed. They were all amazing animals. Cookie was the friendliest cat we’ve had. Trip was an amazing gentle school horse that helped new and inexperienced riders become confident and feel safe. We retired him when his arthritis became too much. Ginny was rideable for little bit, but developed back problems. She was FAST. She became one of Taylor’s best FEEL horses for therapy purposes.

A small 16X16 inch painting I’m starting of Ginny.
